Definition of Disposition

"The final action that puts into effect the results of an appraisal decision for a series of records." "Transfer to an archival institution, transfer to a records center, and destruction are among possible dispositions"[1] Other options include returning materials to the donor or the donor's heirs or executors. When an entire collection scheduled for disposition, transfer to an institution whose collection development policy and/or existing collections more closely matches is preferred.
