General information about how to investigate copyright status may be found here. If contributors are unsure of copyright, please do not add the material.

Works in in the public domain are "no longer under copyright protection" or are items that "failed to meet the requirements for copyright protection." Some examples include public documents and works with expired copyrights (that have not been renewed). Items in the public domain "may be used freely without the permission of the former copyright owner"[1]
