MEMBERSHIP


Anyone may browse the Archivopedia website, but if you would like to take advantage of certain features, such as contributing information to the Archivopedia encyclopedia or accessing the Lerning Center resources, you must become a member.

In the beta 1.0 and beta 1.1 versions of Archivopedia only free memberships are offered. As the site continues to develop, Archivopedia plans to develop a tiered membership. This will include additional free membership products and services as well as paid memberships with specialized services and features that extend beyond the free membership level.


MEMBERSHIP LEVELS

FREE MEMBERSHIP

Beta Version
Geared for the general public, students, and educators, the free membership includes:

* Access and particiption with the wiki
* Use of the custom search engine
* Referral service to companies whose products and services are sought relating to original materials
* Access to the Online Archivist reference service
* Access to Learning Center resources
* Timely updates on news, trends, and blog entries in the professions related to this site on the News webpage

Basic Membership (planned for later versions & not currently offered)
Free with sponsored ads. Includes all of the membership benefits offered in the beta version, plus the following:

* One free professional blog for each individual. The blog must related to the site's theme of original and primary source materials. It may not contain material inappropriate for young individuals to read or see, as school-aged children will also be using this site for researching historical materials. Individual blog owners will be responsible for monitoring their blog and deleting comments from the public that violate this rule. Topics may include, but are not limited to: access, archival appraisal, collections description and use, conservation, digitization, education, metadata, preservation, and related technological developments. The blogs will use Wordpress software and have open url domain names. They will contain site-sponsored ads.

* Use of existing digital classroom space on a sign up basis in Second Life

Genealogist Membership (planned for later versions & not currently offered)
Free with sponsored ads. Storage of general public collections of historic value,including family photos, correspondence, manuscripts. Grants exclusive usage and reproduction rights to Archivopedia. A percentage-based royalty will be paid to users whose digitized items are purchased for reproduction or publication.


PAID MEMBERSHIP (planned for later versions & not currently offered)

Genealogist Plus (planned for later versions & not currently offered)
Fee based. All of the benfits of the Genealogist membership plus promotion of your deposited materials.

Silver (planned for later versions & not currently offered)
Fee based. Geared for individuals and nonprofit institutions who want one blog without site-sponsored ads and want scheduled access to existing virtual classroom space.

Gold (planned for later versions & not currently offered)
Fee based. Geared for individuals and nonprofit institutions who want one blog, deposit materials, encode materials or finding aids with metadata, scheduled access to existing virtual classroom space, advertise educational programs, products, and services.Some limitations on space and number of encoded materials apply with the Gold membership. Additional space and encoding can be purchased. Includes promotion of deposited materials.

Platinum (planned for later versions & not currently offered)
Fee based. Geared for institutions, nonprofits, and companies who want access to multiple blogs for their institutional members, deposit blogs, encoded materials, and a customized virtual environment with unlimited access time. Some limits apply with the Platinum membership. Additional space, blogs, virtual items, and encoding can be purchased in addition to the membership. Includes promotion of deposited materials. Building times for virtual learning environments vary depending on the specifications provided.

--Consider emailing a request to have your repository or business site included in various areas of Archivopedia
* Repository lising (free for nonprofits and educational institutions)
* Grant or Award advertising (free)
* Product Advertisement ($10.00 per single item ad per year) *conditions apply (available beginning beta 1.1)
* Used and Rare Book Sale Item Advertisements ($10.00 per single item ad per year) *conditions apply (available beginning beta 1.1)
* Job Advertising (fee based) (available beginning beta 1.1)
* Company or Product advertisting on an Archivopedia web page (fee based) (available beginning beta 1.1)
--Consider personal or institutional collections not yet online and how archivopedia can help
* Archivopedia will work with existing repositories to help get their items and finding aids online
* Archivopedia seeks collectons owned by individuals of historic value who would like to add their collection online for researcher access without giving up physical possession of those items.
* EAD from print finding aids or digital collection submission
* Digital files transfer, storage, and metadata
* Promotion of your digital collections uploaded here or on your own site
--Consider the educational opportunities available through Archivopedia
* Researchers can use the wiki to understand terminology used by professionals to aid them in their quest for materials
* Researchers and collectors may use the Online Archivist virtual reference tool to chat with a professional archivist and librarian about their research questions, including how to do primary research, where to locate materials, how to cite original materials in a paper or publication, as well as information on the care, storage, and treatment of your old photos, letters, and items of value
* For educators, the online virtual learning environment for distance learning, conferences, meetings, and tutoring sessions (not yet available, planned for later versions)
* Students in archival management and records management courses can utilize the wiki as an online reference tool and study guide, particularly for certification preparation
* Archivists and records managers can keep up with the latest news and trends and use the free referral service when looking for products and services unique to the profession as well as start their own personal blog on professional topics
* Educators of students of all ages can feel comfortable using this site because it is carefully monitored to include information standards inclusive of grades K-12. Collections containing inappropriate material for these grade levels that have been deposited with Archivopedia will be marked with warnings, and all external sites will be monitored for inappropriate materials to be excluded from the main EAD Central search engine.
